Introduction:

An Egganoggin is a small friendly rodent like monster. They are notoriously reclusive, spending most of the year in the North tending Nutmeg trees. The Egganoggin can’t be domesticated. Sighting’s are exclusively limited to holiday parties and festive gatherings. It’s unknown; how exactly, the Egganoggin chooses the parties to attend but their primary service is grating nutmeg into glasses of eggnog. They will teleport from party to party preferring gatherings with warm fun decorations and friendly people. This magical monster adds an element of casual elegance and security. The Egganoggin expects kind and proper manners. Despite its size, one is capable of handling a troublesome and offensive guest.

Investigation:

When we arrived at the Royal Academy, a letter awaited us at the front desk of the Inn where we were staying. A former colleague of mine, Prichard the Bard, invited us to his famous annual Festival Party. The letter elaborated; it couldn’t be guaranteed, but the last several years he’s had the fortune to be visited by an Egganoggin named Albus.

Observations:

Prichard the Bard greeted us with a fresh cold glasses of eggnog and escorted us into the adjoining parlor. The Egganoggin spotted us immediately. In a swish and twinkle the Egganoggin disappeared and reappeared on the mantle next to us. Albus introduced himself, with a strong deep but soft voice, he inquired if we’d like some cheery fresh nutmeg added to our beverages. We introduced ourselves and welcomed some nutmeg to our eggnogs. He wiped his claws on a cloth hidden under his vest and with a few quick scratches of his claws had nutmeg falling into our glasses. We got an incredibly close look at such a charming monster. Albus indulged us further by answering some of our questions. His vest was made by a fairy seamstress. It was one of his most prized possessions. Along with adding to the festive feeling of the holidays, it was also imbued with powerful magic. Interrupting our conversation, a gentleman across the room raised his voice. Using his tail, Albus pulled an impossibly long and elegant sword from his vest and vanished. Appearing again in front of the gentleman causing the ruckus. Followed was a quiet conversation between the two. The man apologized and Albus returned the sword beneath his festive vest. A swish and twinkle later he was offering nutmeg to other guests.

Conclusion:

The Egganoggin is a mysterious monster, but even such a small monster can contribute to the fun and peace of a holiday party. Albus was such a fine fellow; but as we saw, we would not want him angry with us. His sharp claws are for grating nutmeg but who knows what else he might have under that vest.
