Introduction:
A sprite is a primal elemental of one of the four basic elements; air, fire, water, or earth. A fire sprite has the affinity to the elemental energy of fire. It’s body is composed of magical fire taking any shape it desires. Although often, they take on humanoid forms. Sprites being entirely made from magic are incapable of aging. Even the smallest sprite is ancient compared to the average age of a normal human. A fire sprite is immune to all fire and heat damage. They draw power from sources of fire or extreme heat as well as travel nearly instantly through them.
Investigation:
It didn’t take long for the darkness and seclusion of the caves to instill a sense of fear in us. We slowly trod forward, the path always at a slight decline, going deeper and deeper into the mountain. The air was still and the only sound was the echo of our foot falls. Without the sun, it was impossible to determine the passing of each day. We did not know how long we had traveled into the cave. We thought it was the fourth or fifth day when the map my assistant had made became unreliable. We were unsure exactly where in this twisted maze of caverns we were when hot air buffeted us from a side passage. We saw a faint glow around a bend. It was a relief to see any light other than our own lanterns so we moved ahead to determine the source.
Observations:
As we explored deeper into the tunnel a small river of lava flowed from a crack in the wall into a shallow pool. Sitting in the corner, basking in the lava, was a small Fire Sprite. He was only visible from the waist up taking the shape of a round jolly looking human. What we could see of his upper body appeared two standard brick lengths tall. He gave off the same scarlet orange glow as the lava around him. Looking deep into his eyes and the center of his form was the blazing hot glow of blue and white flames. Not sure of the proper etiquette of greeting a fire sprite enjoying a dip in the lava, we went with a typical human approach of a friendly hello and enthusiastic wave. Fritz, the fire sprite beckoned us closer. We approached as close as we could tolerate the heat coming from him and the lava and asked for his assistance.
Conclusion:
Fritz crackled with flames dancing off of him as he listened to us explain that we were looking for the Mad Wizard’s Labyrinth. In a flash he disappeared into the pool of lava and reappeared in a blink of the eye. Using one of his fingers he burned the correct path of tunnels onto our map. Unsure again of proper fire sprite etiquette, we thanked him for his assistance, wished him well, and waved goodbye.
