Richard King Newman IV as the Jack of Dimonds
This is the first in a series of digital portraits I’m doing as a study. Using volunteer facebook friends as reference material I’m creating playing cards incorporating iconic details. For Instance the Jack of Diamonds is classically rendered with a blue vest, a red hat and a gold cravat. He used to hold a dagger before the mirrored double ended cards became popular. He classically would be holding the scabbard but I decided that he would have the dagger raised. I also left out the halberd, instead giving him a pipe. I think this choice was informed by my having many fond memories of Richard King Newman IV ( the gentleman this cards features are based on) out front of my parents house smoking cigarets over the years.
