Curiosity does not usually remain with one subject. When I was growing up, I created my own languages and explored art, writing, science, history, religion, crafts and many other subjects. My college advisors initially got furious with me because I refused to drop the dance and gymnastics courses from my schedule when I was a premed major. I told my advisors that I needed them. I did too!
My husband and I continued the world of curiosity seeking with our sons. Bedtime stories at the toddler age, kids’ choices, were Gray’s Anatomy, The World of Sharks and Max’s First Word. So, when my sons explained very carefully to me that they wanted to be renaissance men when they grew up, I understood perfectly.
Fast forward to our company, Infinite Cortex Creations and our discussion on titles. Believe it or not, we were a little stumped! They are all young career men looking to their futures. Do we go with the corporate world and have a matching title such as Creative Director? What about those others such as CEO, CTO, President, Vice President etc. We could have gone more simple, Artist, Writer or Programmer. How stifling? How limiting?
We wanted something that captured our natural bent towards curiosity (You thought I forgot about that!) and creativity. We began playing with words and in the process hit on creationeer. Of course, we immediately googled it and came up with over 7,000 hits. We are not alone. In this world of technology where art, music, science, history, agriculture, biology, and “you name it” cross pollinate in to whole new fields and careers, we have to keep our minds open to the infinite possibilities of our human endeavors. Happily we have joined others in using the descriptive title of Creationeer as a way of moving us into our new renaissance.
